Week 1

DAB525 Architecture in the City
For this semester of DAB525 one of the tasks is to create and keep a journal of the semesters progress, reflecting on topic covered in the lecture, disucssion from the tutorials and progress updates on the up coming assignment (not to be started till approx. week 4)
During the first lecture of the semester, we were shown 4 photos of a waterfront town and asked to make three observations of it.

My first impressions was that it seemed to be just a medium density waterfront city with no ‘grid’ like layout and dominated by a single large building in its centre. And that the town follows an organic type layout, with the buildings and streets following the natural topography of the land, obviously influenced by the water’s edge. The large building at the city’s centre is acting as a monument within the town, being the main focal point of the town.  Anyone passing by the town by either road or water are highly likely to notice this building first and foremost.
